Will You Love Me Still? Valya Boutenko Katya Korobkina 9780970481986 Books Reviews

I thought this would be a cute bedtime story for both my kids (7 yr. old & 5 yr. old). My 7 year old son kept saying, as I read each page "oooh, you're going to be in trouble, Kitty!" and then laughing at the cat's antics. My 5 yr. old daughter didn't seem to care about the words as much--she just thought the cat was cute (kinda figured she would which is why the cover of the book sold me on it). It was a cute enough story but it was just that. A simple cute story worthy of 4 stars. But then my daughter refused to stay in her room and go to bed, she kept getting out of bed then whining for me to tuck her back in. I finally lost my cool and yelled "Enough! Go to bed already!" She started to cry--really cry and sulk off. I walked her back to bed and said "there's no reason to cry because you know its bedtime--this is no different than any other night." She said, "I'm not crying because its bedtime, I'm crying because you made my feelings hurt." She had the book in bed next to her baby doll and I just melted. Seeing the book reminded me that I need to apologize for getting upset with a child doing what most children do--stall with going to bed. So I held the book up showing her the kitty on the cover and said "I'm sorry I hurt your feelings. Will you love me still?" She giggled and said "yes, Mommy, I still love you, do you still love me even though I made you mad?" Of course! And I melted even more. This little book has now earned its 5 stars for teaching my child--and reminding me of the importance of forgiving and letting go of the small mistakes our loved ones make--and openly expressing our unconditional love for those we cherish. I can easily see this book now being used as a way to mend hurt feelings when one of my children (or I) have done something to really upset another family member. I know I can grab the book off the shelf and read it to smooth things over and use it as a way to open up conversation after someone in the family has upset the other. Thank you to the cute kitty!
Will You Love Me Still? is a children's board book. An adorable and beautifully illustrated book about a crazy cat. Each page is the cat getting into various forms of trouble and questioning his owner, a cute little girl with glasses, if she'll still love him when he does these things.

My daughter is 2 and loved the silly troubles the kitty got into. The book helped to start conversations with her about why she shouldn't do certain things and how you'll always be loved even if you do get into troubles.

The bright colors and beautiful picture captured my daughters attention and allowed her to sit through the whole book...more than once! A great book for any child to have, I highly recommend it.
I look for three things in a good children's book a character a child can relate to, a story that will grab a child and illustrations that would be attractive to a child. This little book does all three superbly, and teaches a valuable lesson besides. It teaches the unconditional love of a mother. Ms. Korobkina's illustrations are outstanding. The story, which is about how the main character's cat get into all kinds of trouble, but the child character still loves it, has to be appealing to a child. All children love animals and are quite familiar with conduct that mother does not like. Yet, in the end, the child character in the book says, "Oh Kitty, I will always-always love you, no matter what you do!" This is a superb children's story and book. I recommend it highly.
This is a delightful book, appropriate for very young and ageless children alike. It's made of sturdy, glossed cardboard rather than paper, so you don't need to worry about spills or stains. The chunky square design has a nice hand feel for little ones who want to feel like they're reading a more substantial (i.e. thicker, "adult") book.

The message is one part mischief and all love. In a world so fixated on behavior, attitude and conditional love, the message of unconditional, baseline love takes on even more importance. That said, this book could open a doorway for parents to discuss the difference between disappointment in behavior vs. condemning someone as a person. The kitty in this book is very naughty! Parents might want to use this book as a springboard for chats with their children about how they are always loved but that certain behaviors are preferred or inappropriate. The kitty "tests" the girl like children often push boundaries in order to see if they are loved under all conditions. With the assurance of this unconditional love, one assumes the kitty's behavior would improve ... although that story is perhaps part of a different book. )

Highly recommended for small children and new readers.
Fun book!
I got this book for my 2 y.o. toddlers who love cats and pictures of cats. The illustrations are cute and we usually end up looking through the pictures and just describing what's in the pictures. I guess I was expecting the text to rhyme, but it's written in prose
This is a thick cardboard page toddler book; however, my six year old grand-daughter is easy to please and was thrilled to get it for a birthday gift. Her mom can read it to her or she can read it herself (or her dolls) and it is a great way to reinforce unconditional love.
