Woman of Steel Autobiography of a Psychic Medium by Mary Meissner
My Ma got off on whipping me mercilessly. Ma whipped me with a strap until I bled. She lifted the prongs on the strap to create greater punishment. She’d beat me within an inch of my life. This occurred time after time from when I was four years old until I was sixteen and mature enough to stop her. She didn’t care how much blood was on my face or head or arms and legs.
Most of the time, I didn’t know why I was getting whipped. She loved to whip me. She didn’t want sex with my Dad, so she got her rocks off whipping me. She had an orgasm whenever she whipped me. When Ma was having her orgasms, she’d start singing praises to Jesus and would get high from inflicting pain on me. But I never flinched. I took it and never cried or yelled out. I steeled myself each time to the abuse and pain being inflicted on me. I never surrendered. I forged myself into a Woman of Steel.

I started reading this autography, got partway through and had to go back again. I was wondering to myself if such theatrics written could really have truth. The more I read the more the author convinced me what I was reading was indeed fact. You see I don't see myself as a believer in mediums, reincarnation and all of that psychic stuff. This book helped open my mind to understanding and accepting or rather challenging my beliefs to make myself a more accepting and understanding person.
I read this book start to finish and enjoyed every challenging moment of right from the beginning where Mary was born of three, with a s***-faced doctor on hand, and rejected by her own mother. I'm not giving anything else away on this one. I suggest you take an hour to read this incredible journey and reflect. Bravo!

Woman of Steel Autobiography of a Psychic Medium Mary Meissner 9780692294505 Books Reviews
As I read my way through life I occasionally happen across books such as this and am stopped in my tracks. How can one person endure such rejection and pain? This is a thoughtful and tragic story that everyone should read. I'm glad I did...
Quite a story of a girl, and then of a woman, enduring some incredible abuse and hardships. What she overcame, to become an inspiring woman, is told in a detailed and conversational manner. Woman of Steel Autobiography of a Psychic Medium by Mary Meissner is a story to be shared.
This story is one of an incredible life-journey...I applaud this "woman of steel"! Yet I, too, wonder where the editor was! This was difficult to read for this lack. I grew up where Mary Meissner did, and even names of small towns were wrong. Thank you, Mary, for sharing such a personal journey. May you now know only Love and Light!
Find your strength that is within you! This is a very inspirational book.
This woman has a painful experience, but she overcomes it. She has even more strength, because she was able to survive and tolerate the unbearable pain.
If somebody is a victim of abuse this book will definitely help to find the strength and way to freedom.
She "might" be a descent medium but she is a terrible writer. She also wrote with a lot of vengeance towards her family especially her mother. She has not forgiven her. Also she made it clear that she was he boss in the family. I feel sorry for her husband who never gets to contribute to the decisions being made. I would not recommend this book to friends who are other mediums because it has nothing to do with Spirit or giving readings. It is just her biography.
This was my first exposure to the life and experiences of a psychic medium.I was drawn in right from the description of the Murphy farmhouse and took a couple of hours to finish the book. There is an lot of childhood incidents shared in the book which can cause significant amount of discomfort to the reader, and leaves one wondering about how to people end up being loving and kind, inspite of everything. It is a gripping read, and engaging for sure.
Woman of Steel tells the story of one woman's journey into finding herself after a lifetime of receiving child abuse, neglect, and mixed messages from her parents. Her mother would beat her in order to achieve some sort of ecstasy only she could feel; her father would stand by helplessly. Her only recourse were the loving grandparents she was fortunate enough to have that not only encouraged but fostered her psychic gifts. However, it was sometimes not enough to protect her. Only Spirit had that capability.
After a marriage that replicated her family of upbringing, she married a man who accepted her for herself. This is a story of fortitude, courage, and insight into not only how spirit can impact our lives and protect, but how humans are so touched.
My one complaint about this book was the repetition. Oh my goodness! Sometimes within the confines of the same paragraph! One sentence, then another practically identical. In addition, I found myself saying "didn't I read that part already?" (Within different chapters). All in all, it's a good read, an inspirational story, and one, if you are a survivor of child abuse, makes the reader realize you are not alone.
